Strategic Foresight on the Middle East: SSB Meeting at the Austrian Ministry of Defence

As a member of the Strategy and Security Policy Advisory Board of the Science Commission at the Austrian Federal Ministry of Defence, I participated in the Board’s second meeting on the current security situation in the Middle East, with a particular focus on Iran.

The exchange addressed the regional and global implications of current conflict dynamics, including potential effects on Austria and Europe’s security, economy, energy supply, critical infrastructure, and resilience.

The Ministry’s Department for Defence Policy and Strategy also presented possible scenarios for the region, which were assessed by the Advisory Board in terms of probability and potential impact.

The discussion once again highlighted the importance of strategic foresight and evidence-based security policy in a rapidly changing geopolitical environment.
